Official Services
Role of SNU Ministry
Since 1939 the Spiritualists' National Union has been legally recognised by the Home Office to appoint people who demonstrate the right characteristics to hold the highest office within SNU Spiritualism.
The Ministership of the SNU is granted to those who have been selected as worthy to represent Spiritualism by their educational qualifications, practical ability and good example they give as Ministers of Religion.
There are both Ministers and Officiants (registered as Celebrants in Scotland) who work within the SNU Ministry.
As an Officiant of the SNU Ministry I am trained to conduct Official Services such as Weddings, Blessings, Funerals and Namings

FUNERALS
Most Spiritualists are members of the SNU, but anyone can have a Spiritualist funeral. The Spiritualist Church’s funeral services do not include formal religious rituals and language and so the SNU suggests that a Spiritualist funeral may be appropriate for people who did not attend a place of worship, but who had similar beliefs.
Each service is a Celebration of Continuous Life and is tailored to meet the needs of the bereaved loved ones whether at burials, cremations, scattering of ashes or a memorial service. It can include hymns, songs, poetry and prayers which are considered appropriate for the deceased.
WEDDINGS
Most Spiritualist Churches are registered for weddings including same sex ceremonies. As an Officiant I am fully trained to carry out marriage ceremonies which include the necessary legally binding vows. A registar is still necessary to record and issue the Marriage Certificate.
Loved ones in the Spirit World are also invited to witness the exchanging of the vows and bring their love to this important day!
NAMINGS
The service uses flowers instead of religious symbols and is a spiritual alternative to a christening service. The Spirit World provide a spiritual name as well as the name you are known by. The services are for babies, children or for adults who have accepted Spiritualism as their religion.
Available in Spiritualist Churches or other suitable venue.
OTHER SERVICES
There are a range of other services available such as:-
- Wedding blessings following Civil Service
- Renewal of Vows i.e. Silver Wedding Anniversary
- Spiritual blessings for couples who don't require a legally binding ceremony.
- Namings can be done in hospitals for babies in intensive care.
